Frank Kell Freas is considered by many to be the Dean of Science Fiction Art. His career spanned for more than 50 years and he created some of the most iconic pieces in the genre. His artwork spanned the covers of Science Fiction magazines and pulps to the covers of the Science Fiction giants to the Cover of Queen's "News of the World."
He has the distinction of receiving ten Hugo awards for best science fiction illustration and has amassed a body of work that spans decades of writing and art making styles.
The cover for "Have Spacesuit, Will Travel" and "Swan Song" demonstrates my favorite style that he worked in. My father had a copy of the Heinlein that he received from the Science Fiction Book Club in the nineties. I remember falling in love with the color palette and still find myself trying to paint stars and nebulae in the same manner.
